It's amazing, but true . . .

Discover how your child can

pick up true, wholesome

values from learning to

kick, block, and punch

Dear Parent,

If you’re thinking… “come on… how can karate and martial arts do that?” Well, I’m here to tell you, in more ways than you can begin to imagine.

My name is Jay Larkin, Director of WhirlWin Martial Arts. Since 1989, I've been nurturing children like yours with character building tools found only in the martial arts. No other sport can match these powerful tools.

Just watch as your child increases in confidence, energy and spirit. Stand and be dazzled as he becomes unstoppable in his quest for...

  • Greater academic achievement.
  • Unshakeable self respect
  • Increased strength and fitness, in body and mind.

And all of it comes while learning how to “kick, block, and punch.” Look at it this way. Your child’s first and biggest challenge comes not from “fighting for his rights” on the playground, or “beating up the neighborhood bully.” It comes, instead, from battling much more sinister forces…

Your child’s own fears and self doubts:

  • “I’m not as smart as Jesse.”
  • “I don’t get what my teacher is saying.”
  • “I wish I was as [strong, pretty, tall] as Christine.”
  • “Why does Jason keep giving me a bad time?”
  • “Why can’t I be as popular as Mike?”

So, how do you get your child to fight these demons? You know about these problems; however, your child has a tough time even telling you she’s haunted by them. Never mind how she might conquer them.

Well, good news. I have a proven solution: A program that has already worked for hundreds of children in the Northlake area. A series of lessons your child can learn easier than you think.

I call it, “Kids With Kick.”Let me tell you

its secret:

To repeat, martial arts are less about your child learning to fight others, and more about fighting…himself. His innermost fears. Conquer them, and your child unleashes within himself a powerful, unstoppable force.

A force that gives him the strength to kick down the doors of his own self doubts, A force that opens your child to the exalting power of values.

In other words, when your child uses the discipline of karate to conquer his fears, he has power to transfer that discipline to all other areas of his life. Our Kenpo Karate program will teach him how. I know of no other sport activity that purposefully instills these powerful lessons better than Kenpo.

Just take a look at what these parents say...

"I can achieve anything"

...thank you for working with Jose.  Jose has developed from a timid, quiet boy, to a 'I can achieve anything' little boy.

Thanks much!

"Our son's self-confidence has sky rocketed"

Because of Mr. Larkin’s patience and teaching in Kenpo as well as the basic fundamentals of discipline and most importantly respect, our son’s self confidence has sky rocketed.

Mr. Larkin is gifted when it comes to teaching and dealing with children. He makes each child feel good about himself and proud of everything that they have accomplished. With the help of Mr. Larkin our son has become a very respectful young man.

The fundamentals he has learned in Kenpo is astonishing.

Thank you Mr. Larkin and WhirlWin.

"Now she walks taller ... and is much more outgoing"

Jay,

Hey there!  I just wanted to say thank you for all you've done for Emma.  Before she started at WhirlWin she didn't make eye contact with people, she was very shy and withdrawn, and her confidence was very low.  However, now she walks taller, makes great eye contact and is much more outgoing.

For example:  on December 19, 2004, I brought Emma with me to my Christmas party for work, being only ten and with all adults, I figured she would be the "usual Emma" where I would have to pry her off of me because she was to intimidated by all the people or she would act up for the same reason.  Instead though, much to my surprise, she was quite different.  She walked right up to my bosses wife, put her hand out, made perfect eye contact, and introduced herself.  Everybody at the party was so impressed with her attitude and behavior, but as for me, I can't even begin to describe how I felt at that moment.  I was so proud and honored, all I could think was WOW Jay is really working wonders!!!

To some people their child to be outgoing and confident like that might not be that big of a deal because they've always been that way, but for me that moment left me breathless and I have you to thank for going the extra mile like you always have.
So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely,

Autumn Scarimbolo,
Northlake

"...classes are educational, structured, and fun"

For anyone who is thinking of getting their children involved in martial arts, I would like to highly recommend WhirlWin. My children have been attending for

several years and I couldn't be happier with Mr. Larkin and his staff.

Mr. Larkin is a wonderful teacher whose classes are educational, structured, and fun. I really appreciate the way he takes personal interest in each student and offers his wisdom not only on Kenpo, but on other subjects as well including diet, exercise, school, and everyday life. I believe he is a great role model for kids.

Now I just need to find the time to sign up myself!

Sincerely,

Katherine Miller,
Northlake

"He has mastered things we thought weren't possible"

My son struggles in his fine motor ability; also, his upper body dexterity is weak. From having met with some of his teachers at school and having our own discussions we decided that martial arts would be very good for him. We made a phone call to WhirlWin Martial Arts. Mr. Larkin answered all of our questions. He invited us to try a few classes to see if it was what we were looking for and it was.

We started just over a year ago. The children range in all different size and ability. Mr. Larkin has great ability and is very skilled in the Martial Arts not just to teach but also to respect and focus on what is important.

As for my son he is now an orange belt. He has mastered things that we thought weren’t possible. He looks forward to his classes every week and so do we. His dexterity in his upper body improved and he has shown other talents and strengths that not only make us proud but made our son confident.

Thank you WhirlWin for a great experience,

Now, you may be asking, “how does all this

‘values’ stuff work? And why does Kenpo manage

to do a better job teaching it?”

Again, more than any other sport, Kenpo gives your

child the chance to explore her innate powers. She'll

marvel (as you will) as she increases in strength,

 flexibility, endurance, and balance.

In fact, her physical skills act as a foundation for

something much more important: the development of

her value skills, mental and spiritual. These value skills

 are intimately connected—even bonded—to her

 physical skills.

     Like this...

     Courage:
Your child finds the courage to move outside of his comfort zone. He wills himself to take on more difficult karate moves and skills. He becomes no longer afraid of being afraid. As he does so, he learns that the more he sows, the more he reaps. He learns to blame no one but himself. He suddenly sees his life as a constant, never-ending journey of life-giving improvement. In short, with a deep breath, he refuses to become a victim of fate.

     Staying Power:
Your child finds joy in improving her physical stamina. She can walk farther, run longer, and practice skills until she gets them right. In turn, she learns not to give up. She sticks things out. With the help of her teachers, she strives harder, longer to reach her goals. Even if she fails, she preserves her self-respect. She won't let her self doubts get in the way of finding ultimate solutions.

     Honesty:
As the man said, "Where performance is measured,

performance improves." Yet, your child has to first accept where he stands now. That means measuring current strengths. Above all, he learns that to succeed, he can't fool anyone, especially himself.

This results in a keener focus. He learns to make eye contact consistently. He pays greater attention to what he's doing. He knows and accepts where he stands.

These are just three of the powerful, energizing values your child will get from our "Kids With Kick" program. In short, you can look forward to your child developing. . .

  • Powerful Self Discipline: She'll refuse to give in to negative peer pressure. She'll have deeper respect for rules.
  • Improved Focus: She’ll learn what's needed, along with the skill to “zero in” on critical tasks at hand. Normal, yet time-wasting, childhood distractions won’t get in her way.
  • Fearless Self Confidence: Watch as your child finds the courage to open any door life has to offer.

"WhirlWin Martial Arts teaches discipline and focus to early elementary students.

Mr. Larkin knows how to teach younger students the martial arts in a fun and structured manner.

Above all the study of martial arts at WhirlWin is instilling confidence

in our son."

And you can take comfort knowing that we teach all of our students that their Kenpo skills require them never to be abusive or offensive (actually, we stress this heavily). Skills are to be used only for unavoidable self-defense or in defense of the weak. After a short period of time, students become markedly less aggressive while maintaining confidence and high personal self-esteem.

Now if you’re wondering… "How can I know for sure the `Kids With Kick' program will work for my child? Will learning the martial art Kenpo really work for him?" Well...

Try WhirlWin's Youth Trial Program

This trial program will give you the opportunity to see first hand the power of our program and the professionalism of our teachers. The tuition is $149 and includes 6 weeks of training, a private introductory lesson, and a uniform.

By the way, just wait until you see the joy in your child’s face when they put on their uniform for the first time - it’s something special! I’ve seen it hundreds of times over the last 18 years and it never gets old. It’s one of the reasons why I love being a Kenpo Teacher!
